My wife and I used to travel to Newfoundland for the holidays by taking the bus to Sydney, the ferry to Port aux Basques and another bus to Corner Brook. I enjoyed the cozy feeling of being out of time like the adult version of dozing in the back seat of your parent's car. This installation is for all the people in transit during the holidays.

Sponsored by the Downtown Dartmouth Business Association this animatronic installation filled the windows at 122 Portland St. as part of their holiday celibrations.

When hurricane Fiona hit NS, I thought, “What will the Sable Island horses do?” I wasn’t alone. The CBC tracked down an answer. Turns out they hunker down together behind the larger sand dunes. It should be no suprise that this herd, born from a dozen shipwrecks and left alone for 300 years, is able to take care of itself. Still, I was struck by this collective moment of empathy for these creatures that otherwise go about their lives without our help or attention.

This display is a tribute to all who are suspended between their homes and the people they love during the holidays. Whether by plane, bus, or jet pack, this journey is filled with both melancholy and anticipation. In 2020, many could not make this trip while others had no choice.

This installation was part of the Downtown Dartmouth Business Association's Lights of Dartmouth outdoor art festival in December of 2020.
